Today was just one of those days, you know? 🙃 (12th launch of 31 launches!)

Hi friends,

Yesterday, I launched a series of videos about how to prioritize happiness while working at a business.

I was sad when it seemed like no one was watching them, but then I saw this tweet from a friend:

It made my day! 🥰

A lot of the work I do is in private — planning, brainstorming, writing, rewriting.

Sometimes I do all of that work and then 🦗🦗🦗. No one seems to notice. It can feel like I'm talking to no one.

What I've realized is that:

  • No one has time. Everyone is busy with their own lives (just like I am with mine) and focused on just getting that one thing done so they can relax or simply be less stressed. So, if I want to interrupt them and say, "Hey this is worth your time", I better make sure it's worth it... And even then, I can't expect much. Just today, I scrolled through a thorough and fascinating explanation of how GPS works in ~5 seconds and immediately closed the window. It was cool, but I don't have time for that! I bet a lot of people feel the same way about my work.
  • It doesn't have to be my last draft. Whatever I put out into the world, it's just a small note in the story of my life. I won't play that note perfectly the first time — and it won't be the last time I attempt to play it. If it doesn't go well the first time around, I can just try again later.

These insights are what keep me grounded when I put something into the world that I really care about.

Today, I wrote a blog post I'm super proud of that didn't do well on Twitter, but it's not the final time I'll talk about it (haha): "Taking on Psychological Debt by Over-Promising the Future".

Tomorrow, I was planning to post "The Best Gift You Can Receive as an Indie Maker is Permission to Be Yourself", but I haven't heard back from the person I mention in the post, so I'll save it. I'll probably post something else instead... I don't know what yet. 😬

Good night 🌖 and I hope your week is off to a great start!

David
